HONORARY RESOLUTION

THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA HONORS AND COMMENDS

Paula Uccelli, 2009 Columbus Day Honoree

Whereas, the San Mateo County Italian-American community has a long history of celebrating its Italian Heritage on Columbus Day. Since 1999, this celebration of Italian food, music, singing, dancing and fellowship has continued in the San Mateo County History Museum. Each year, the volunteers’ dedication, enthusiasm and generosity, ensures the celebration’s continuation and success. For 2009, volunteer Paula Uccelli has been selected as the 2009 Columbus Day Honoree; and

Whereas, since 1999, Paula Uccelli has been a significant contributor to the Columbus Day Celebration and has served on its planning committee. She has been the consummate, gracious hostess for monthly committee meetings, provided advice, solicited raffle prizes, contributed financial support, sold event tickets, and served as the back-bone of the committee, pitching in wherever needed, including decorating and clean-up, to guarantee the event’s success; and

Whereas, Paula Uccelli has been recognized for her importance in the Italian-American community and honored by the Sons of Italy for her humanitarian efforts, along with her late husband Pete. Paula’s real passion, however, is her pride of her Sicilian-American heritage, which provides loads of opportunities for humor and great stories; and

Whereas, Paula Uccelli’s community involvement goes well beyond her participation in this event. She has been recognized by State Senator Joe Simitian as well as many community organizations, far too many to name, for her community volunteerism, vision, commitment, generosity, and pay-it-forward approach. Despite so many recognitions, however, Paula maintains her genuine warmth of personality, lively humor, and down-to-earth presence that endears her to San Mateo County.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby acknowledges Paula Uccelli, our Friend and Honoree for 2009 Columbus Day.
