HONORARY RESOLUTION

 

THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA COMMENDS NINETY YEARS OF SERVICE BY THE

COMMUNITY CHURCH OF EAST PALO ALTO

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Whereas, the history of the COMMUNITY CHURCH OF EAST PALO ALTO dates back to the year 1919 with the establishment of the first Sunday School class; and

 

Whereas, in 1932, Rev. Earl Jennison was called as the first pastor and a Church Constitution established and approved by twenty charter members, designating the COMMUNITY CHURCH OF EAST PALO ALTO as an Interdenominational Church; and

   

Whereas, in 1948, the congregation purchased two lots at the corner of Bell Street and University Avenue in East Palo Alto; and

   

Whereas, in 1953, construction of the COMMUNITY CHURCH OF EAST PALO ALTO Sanctuary, Fellowship Hall, Fireside Room and Education Units, with a total combined seating capacity of 750, was completed and dedicated to God in a community-wide celebration; and

   

Whereas, in 1955, six COMMUNITY CHURCH OF EAST PALO ALTO Sunday School teachers became foreign missionaries who, along with eight other identified outreach ministries, received the spiritual and financial support of church members; and

 

Whereas, the vision for the COMMUNITY CHURCH OF EAST PALO ALTO is “We will reach out to all people by identifying and meeting their real needs, making sure they feel welcome and accepted, and helping them to build relationships with the Lord Jesus Christ”; and

   

Whereas, in its ninety year history, the COMMUNITY CHURCH OF EAST PALO ALTO has been led by fifteen pastors/interim pastors and is currently being served by Rev. Desmond Henry.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby commends the COMMUNITY CHURCH OF EAST PALO ALTO, the oldest, organized, Christian Church in the City of East Palo Alto, California, for its ninety years of service to the City of East Palo Alto and the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Area.
