RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

SAMARITAN HOUSE

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, SAMARITAN HOUSE is a San Mateo County non-profit organization with a mission to improve lives, promote self-sufficiency, and preserve dignity by providing supportive services for all members of our community in need; and

   

WHEREAS, SAMARITAN HOUSE has been realizing its vision of a caring community – neighbor-helping-neighbor – since 1974, and provides services to help meet the essential daily needs of more than 12,000 of our low-income neighbors each year; and

   

WHEREAS, SAMARITAN HOUSE offers an interim safety net for individuals and families in need, while ultimately helping them move toward self-sufficiency, and provides its clients with food, clothing, shelter, healthcare, worker resources, and counseling services – all free of charge; and

   

WHEREAS, SAMARITAN HOUSE enjoys broad support and leverages community resources for maximum effectiveness, accomplishing its work with the help of more than 2,000 volunteers and more than two-thirds of its budget coming from private groups and individuals; and

   

WHEREAS, SAMARITAN HOUSE is meeting the greatly increasing need for its services because of the impact the current recession is having on the citizens of San Mateo County; and

   

WHEREAS, SAMARITAN HOUSE is today celebrating the opening of its new home at 4031 Pacific Boulevard in San Mateo – a modern facility that will allow the agency to consolidate a number of programs and enhance its ability to meet the needs of our community, now and in the future.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, on October 2, 2009, hereby congratulates SAMARITAN HOUSE, its supporters and volunteers on this auspicious occasion; commends the agency for the vital role it plays in improving the quality of life in our community; and extends its best wishes for the agency’s continued success in helping its clients become self-sufficient.
