BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION DIRECTING THE COUNTY MANAGER OR THE MANAGER’S DESIGNEE TO EXECUTE ALL DOCUMENTS NECESSARY FOR SAN MATEO COUNTY TO PARTICIPATE IN THE ABAG REGIONAL STATE ENERGY PROGRAM GRANT APPLICATION
RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that
WHEREAS, energy use by residences accounts for over 25 percent of the greenhouse gas generated nationally; and
WHEREAS, the State of California has set aside $93 million in funding for the State Energy Program (SEP) competitive grant process that includes funding for residential energy efficiency programs; and
WHEREAS, the Association and Bay Area Governments (ABAG) has offered to coordinate a regional SEP grant request for $10 million for the nine Bay Area counties; and
WHEREAS, applicants are required to commit to the submitting a SEP application by October 30, 2009, by which date ABAG must have a firm commitment from participating counties; and
WHEREAS, by participating in the ABAG grant, the County of San Mateo would benefit both from additional funds for local outreach and program support and the regional development of the program design and operations; and
WHEREAS, this Board of Supervisors wishes to support San Mateo County’s participation in the grant application, and to enable staff to respond by the due dates set by ABAG.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the Board of Supervisors supports the County of San Mateo’s participation in the Association of Bay Area Governments State Energy Program grant application, and directs the County Manager or the County Manager’s designee to execute all documents necessary for San Mateo County to participate in the ABAG Regional State Energy Program grant application.
