BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION:

1.

ACCEPTING THE FY 2009-10 PAUL COVERDELL FORENSIC SCIENCE IMPROVEMENT GRANT AWARD IN THE AMOUNT OF $105,000 FOR THE FORENSIC LABORATORY; AND

2.

AUTHORIZING THE SHERIFF OR SHERIFF’S DESIGNEE TO EXECUTE ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTS IN CONNECTION WITH THE GRANT INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO CONTRACTS, AGREEMENTS, AMENDMENTS, AND GRANT ASSURANCES.

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, the US Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs, National Institute of Justice (NIJ) solicited applications for the FY 2009-10 Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Grants Program; and

WHEREAS, the goal of NIJ’s FY 2009-10 Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Grant Program is to improve the quality and timeliness of forensic science and medical examiner services, including services provided by laboratories operated by units of local government; and

WHEREAS, the Sheriff’s Forensic Laboratory has successfully applied for and received award of the FY 2009-10 Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Grant, in the amount of $105,000 to fund the purchase and installation of an A.C.C.E.S.S. 500 Evidence Locker Unit and Management System and renovation of the existing structure in order to accommodate locker access; and

WHEREAS, these expenditures will assist in reducing the backlog in the analysis of forensic science evidence thereby improving the quality and timeliness of forensic science services.

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED THAT:

1.

The Board of Supervisors, on behalf of the County of San Mateo is authorized, on behalf of the County of San Mateo, hereby accepts the FY 2009-10 Paul Coverdell Forensic Science Improvement Grant award in the amount of $105,000 for the Forensic Laboratory; and

2.

The Sheriff of Sheriff’s designee is hereby authorized and directed to execute all necessary documents in connection with this grant including but not limited to contracts, agreements, amendments, and grant assurances.
