RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

BOB MARKS

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, Bob Marks grew up in San Mateo and graduated from San Mateo High School and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Southern Oregon University, and has been active in politics for over thirty years and served as a political consultant and advisor to more than 50 political races at the local, state and federal levels; and

   

WHEREAS, Bob Marks started with San Mateo County in 1987 and had the good fortune to serve two distinguished members of the Board of Supervisors, and created Peninsula TV in 1999, a public, educational and government access channel devoted to news and issues affecting San Mateo County, its cities and communities; and

   

WHEREAS, Bob Marks built Peninsula TV by forging a partnership with the County and many of the cities within the county, and bringing together State and Local elected officials, public administrators and business leaders for the common purpose of creating a much needed communication tool for local government, non-profit, and the business community in San Mateo County; and

   

WHEREAS, from 1996 -1999 he was the host of “ Political Pulse, ” an award winning talk show featuring in-depth interviews with a variety of local, state and national figures including Chris Mathews, Pierre Salinger, Senator John McCain, Senator Bill Bradley and New York Governor George Pataki; and

   

WHEREAS, Bob Marks went on to Co-Host “The Game,” a fast paced news and commentary show focusing on politics, business and sports, “Hooked on the Niners,” a weekly sports analysis show featuring the SF 49ers and created and served as Executive Producer of “Bay Area Quiz Kids,” a trivia game show featuring high school students from the Greater Bay Area, which now airs weekly on KRON 4; and

   

WHEREAS, some of Peninsula TV’s shows are now seen on other Bay Area channels and the organization has successfully transitioned from a government owned and operated Public Channel to a non-profit corporation.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, on October 15, 2009, hereby commends Bob Marks for his many contributions to the quality of life in our community and for providing a greater understanding of local and state government in San Mateo County.
