SUBJECT:

Appointments to the San Mateo County Employees’ Retirement Association (SAMCERA) Board of Retirement

 

RECOMMENDATION:

Approve the appointments of Eric Tashman and Lauryn Agnew to the San Mateo County Employees’ Retirement Association Board of Retirement, each to a term expiring December 31, 2012.

 

BACKGROUND:

There are two vacancies on the Samcera Board of Retirement. Supervisors Church and Gordon interviewed candidates for the vacancies on October 21, 2009 and the recommended action is to appoint Eric Tashman and Lauryn Agnew.

 

DISCUSSION:

Eric Tashman has 35 years experience in municipal finance. He is a partner with the law firm, Sidley Austin LLP. Mr. Tashman has extensive knowledge of public financing. He previously served on the Board of the Charles Armstrong School in Belmont and has advised other non-profits on their financing needs.

 

Lauryn Agnew is a former Senior Vice President of Hewins Financial Advisors with over 25 years of experience in the investment industry. Ms. Agnew previously worked at investment banking firms and money management firms and is now an institutional investment consultant to middle market non-profit endowments and foundations, and public and corporate retirement plans. She also previously served on the Samcera Board of Retirement from 1989 to 1998.
