RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

JIM HARTNETT

For Sixteen Years of Service on the City Council of Redwood City

WHEREAS, JIM HARTNETT graduated from Sequoia High School, received an AA Degree from Canada Community College, a BA degree from Sophia University Tokyo Japan, an MA Degree from Sophia University Graduate School of East Asian Studies, and a JD from Santa Clara University Law School, and has served in the United States Navy Reserves, Naval Security Group, and was land based in Pensacola, Florida and on two bases in Japan; and

   

WHEREAS, JIM HARTNETT has had a distinguished career in law, and has worked on a variety of legal issues in the law firms of Shiomi & Yamamoto Law Office in Osaka, Japan; Law Offices of Thomas E. Schatzel in Santa Clara; Kubota, Constantino & Hartnett in Burlingame; and Hartnett, Smith & Associates in Redwood City, California; and

 

WHEREAS, JIM HARTNETT has been an exemplary public servant, and has served as chair of the Redwood City-San Mateo County Chamber of Commerce, City/County Association of Governments, South Bayside Systems Authority, South Bayside Systems Authority, San Mateo County Transit District, CalTrain Joint Powers Board, Dumbarton Rail Policy Committee and Co-Chair of the Progress Seminar; and

   

WHEREAS, JIM HARTNETT has been involved in a number of community organizations and activities, including serving as a member on the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office Inmate Welfare Committee, AYSO National League Board and SAMCEDA, Master of Ceremonies for the Redwood City Project Read Trivia Bee Fundraiser for 8 years, Manager for the Big League Baseball Division of Little League and All Star Teams, and was named 2001 Person of the Year by Redwood City-San Mateo County Chamber of Commerce; and

   

WHEREAS, JIM HARTNETT has served for 16 years on the City Council of Redwood City, and served as Mayor of Redwood City from 1995 to 1997.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, on November 30, 2009, hereby commends and honors JIM HARTNETT for his 16 years of service on the City Council of Redwood City, and extends its best wishes to him and his family on their future endeavors.
