RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

DIANE HOWARD

For Sixteen Years of Service on the City Council of Redwood City

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, DIANE HOWARD attended Suffolk County College and went on to attend nursing school at Lewis A. Wilson School of Nursing and worked as an Orthopedic nurse in New York from 1971 until 1981, when she moved to California with her husband, Dr. Steven Howard, and son, Geoffrey,

   

WHEREAS, DIANE HOWARD has had a distinguished career as a Registry Nurse at Sequoia Hospital, San Mateo General and Kaiser Hospital, and as Office Manager and Nurse with her husband at their family medical practice in San Carlos; and

   

WHEREAS, DIANE HOWARD has been an exemplary public servant and has served on several committees and boards for the city and numerous community organizations, including Chairperson of the Housing and Human Concerns Committee, Chairperson of the Parks and Recreation Committee, member of the Child Care Advisory Committee, Redwood City/San Mateo County Chamber of Commerce Economic Development and Transportation & Housing Committees, San Mateo County Medical Auxilary Board, Redwood Family House Advisory Board, Kainos Home and Training Center and Sequoia YMCA Board Chairperson; and

 

WHEREAS, DIANE HOWARD has served on a variety of state, regional and county-wide boards, including CCAG, Peninsula Traffic Congestion Relief Alliance, HEART, and the Governor’s Blue Ribbon Task Force for the Water Transit Authority, among others; and

   

WHEREAS, DIANE HOWARD was elected to four terms on the City Council of Redwood City from 1994 to 2010, and served as Mayor of Redwood City from 1997 to 1999.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, on November 30, 2009, hereby commends and honors DIANE HOWARD for her 16 years of service on the City Council of Redwood City, and extends its best wishes to her and her family on their future endeavors.
