Appointment to the San Mateo County Transportation Authority
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve the appointment of Supervisor Rich Gordon to the San Mateo County Transportation Authority to a term expiring December 31, 2011.
BACKGROUND:
The San Mateo County Transportation Authority (TA) was formed in 1988 with the passage of the voter-approved half-cent sales tax for countywide transportation projects and programs, known as Measure A. The TA’s role is to administer the proceeds from Measure A to fund a broad spectrum of transportation-related projects and programs.
The TA is an independent agency and is governed by an appointed board of seven directors, who are elected officials, representing the county, cities and the San Mateo County Transit District.
DISCUSSION:
Supervisor Gordon is a current Board member on the San Mateo County Transportation Authority and his appointment will expire on December 31, 2009. Supervisor Gordon has been a member of the TA for ten years. The recommended action is to re-appoint Supervisor Gordon.
