RESOLUTION INCREASING THE PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR’S AUTHORITY TO EXECUTE CHANGE ORDERS (CONTRACT AMENDMENTS) TO THE CONTRACT WITH HALF MOON BAY GRADING & PAVING, INC., TO INCREASE THE “NOT TO EXCEED” AMOUNT OF $261,580 BY AN ADDITIONAL $65,000, TO A NEW “NOT TO EXCEED” AMOUNT OF $326,580, IN ORDER TO ALLOW FOR PAYMENT OF UNANTICIPATED PROJECT COSTS RELATED TO THE MIDCOAST DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENT PROJECT ON CEDAR STREET FROM GEORGE STREET TO MONTARA CREEK.

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

WHEREAS, on March 17, 2009, the Board of Supervisors adopted Resolution No. 069989, adopting plans and specifications, including conformance with prevailing wage rates scale requirements and calling for sealed proposals for the Project; and

 

WHEREAS, on May 5, 2009, the Board of Supervisors adopted Resolution No. 070100, which awarded and authorized execution of a contract with Half Moon Bay Grading & Paving, Inc. with a not-to-exceed amount of $261,580 for the MidCoast Drainage Improvement Project on Cedar Street from George Street to Montara Creek (Project); and

 

WHEREAS, it was anticipated that existing native material would be used as trench backfill for the storm drainage improvements; however, it was found to be unsuitable for this use and imported material needed to be used for this purpose; and

 

WHEREAS, there were several unanticipated existing utility line crossings that required careful work to expose and work with to avoid damage and install the proposed storm drain pipe; and

 

WHEREAS, two sanitary sewer laterals initially believed not to be in conflict with the storm drain pipe were found to be in conflict and required relocation; and

 

WHEREAS, additional work is required at the storm drain outfall area: and

 

WHEREAS, an increase in the Contract amount of $65,000 is required to pay for the cost of the additional material and work; and

 

WHEREAS, the Board has considered and concurs with the recommendation of the Director of Public Works.

 

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that:

 

The Director of Public Works’ authority to execute change orders (contract amendments) to the contract with Half Moon Bay Grading & Paving, Inc., is hereby increased by an additional $65,000, to a new “Not to Exceed” amount of $326,580, in order to allow for payment of unanticipated project costs related to the Midcoast Drainage Improvement Project on Cedar Street from George Street to Montara Creek.
