BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION: A) AUTHORIZING THE PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD TO EXECUTE AGREEMENT NO. MI-0910-08 WITH THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF AGING FOR FUNDING UNDER THE MEDICARE IMPROVEMENTS FOR PATIENTS AND PROVIDERS ACT OF 2008 FOR EXPANDING MEDICARE BENEFICIARY ENROLLMENT FOR THE TERM AUGUST 1, 2009 THROUGH MAY 31, 2011, IN THE AMOUNT OF $23,986; AND B) AUTHORIZING THE CHIEF OF THE HEALTH SYSTEM OR DESIGNEE TO EXECUTE CONTRACT AMENDMENTS WHICH MODIFY THE FUNDING AMOUNT BY NO MORE THAN $25,000 (IN AGGREGATE), AND/OR MODIFY THE CONTRACT TERM AND/OR SERVICES SO LONG AS THE MODIFIED TERM OR SERVICES IS/ARE WITHIN THE CURRENT OR REVISED FISCAL PROVISIONS

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

WHEREAS, this Board has designated itself as the Area Agency on Aging of San Mateo County to carry out programs supporting senior services; and

 

WHEREAS, there has been presented to this Board of Supervisors for its consideration and acceptance an Agreement, reference to which is hereby made for further particulars, whereby the Aging and Adult Services Division shall provide Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program services; and

 

WHEREAS, in June 2008, the Medicare Improvements for Patients and Providers Act (MIPPA) was signed into law and amended titles XVIII and XIX of the Social Security Act to extend expiring provisions under the Medicare Program, to improve beneficiary access to preventive and mental health services, to enhance low-income benefit programs, and to maintain access to care in rural areas, including pharmacy access; and

 

WHEREAS, both parties now wish to enter into the Agreement to support and enhance outreach and enrollment of Medicare beneficiaries in Medicare Part D Low Income Subsidy and Medicare Savings Programs for the period of August 1, 2009 through May 31, 2011, in the amount of $23,986; and

 

WHEREAS, this Board has examined the Agreement and has approved it as to both form and content.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the President of the Board of Supervisors be and is hereby authorized and directed to execute said Agreement with the California Department of Aging for MIPPA funds for and on behalf of the County of San Mateo, and the Clerk of this Board shall attest the President’s signature thereto.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Chief of the Health System or designee be authorized to execute contract amendments which modify the funding amount by no more than $25,000 (in aggregate), and/or modify the contract term and/or services so long as the modified term or services is/are within the current or revised fiscal provisions.
