THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS

COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING THE

NOTRE DAME de NAMUR UNIVERSITY

DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE AND DANCE

AND ITS COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS

WHEREAS, begun in 1986, and now a San Francisco Bay Area tradition, “The Gift” is a fully staged musical theatre production of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol produced by the NDNU Theatre and Dance Department in collaboration with community volunteers; and

 

 

WHEREAS, the cast of “The Gift” consists of over eighty actors, singers, dancers and musicians from throughout the Bay Area, in addition to the dozens of volunteers who provide their time and skill to costume, scene, decorative and lighting design to recreate a Charles Dickens London in Belmont; and

   
 

WHEREAS, “The Gift” expands the spirit of A Christmas Carol by giving eight free performances to the community and encouraging audience members to bring food or toys to the theatre, which are later distributed through local food banks and the Toys for Tots program; and

   
 

WHEREAS, over the course of their 23 years of production, the efforts of hundreds of students, NDNU staff, and community volunteers has touched the lives of an estimated 100,000 audience members, and provided over three tons of food and thousands of toys annually to families in need;

   
 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby commends the NDNU DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE AND DANCE AND ITS COMMUNITY VOLUNTEERS on the occasion of its 23rd Annual production of “The Gift” and on behalf of all our citizens express sincere appreciation to this organization for its numerous achievements and contributions.
