RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

DOUG JOHNSON

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, DOUG JOHNSON is a driver for the San Carlos Elementary School District with twenty seven years experience and has shown extraordinary courage in saving the life of Dr. Mary Margaret Flynn; and

   

WHEREAS, DOUG JOHNSON in performing his duties and delivering lunches for kids, was making his daily rounds driving a bus instead of the customary utility van because the van was out of service and thus prompting him to take extra precaution; and

   

WHEREAS, Dr. Mary Margaret Flynn is a sixty seven year old physician at the San Mateo County Medical Center and was crossing the train tracks at Whipple Avenue and El Camino Real in Redwood City on December 15, 2009; and

   

WHEREAS, Dr. Mary Margaret Flynn fell on the railroad tracks and was unable to pick herself up because she was recovering from a broken arm. As she cried for help, a northbound Caltrain was approaching the intersection; and

   

WHEREAS, DOUG JOHNSON witnessed the fall, immediately pulled his bus over and assisted Dr. Flynn and her seven year old dog, Miggs, to safety; and

   

WHEREAS, DOUG JOHNSON further expressed his professionalism by quickly running back to his bus and continuing his route to deliver lunches.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, on January 26, 2010, hereby recognizes and thanks DOUG JOHNSON for taking quick and heroic actions that prevented a tragedy on the Caltrains track.
