RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING | ||||
CHIEF JACK L. VAN ETTEN For Thirty-Six Years of Service with the Burlingame Police Department | ||||

WHEREAS, CHIEF JACK L. VAN ETTEN has served the Burlingame Police Department with loyalty, professionalism, integrity and dedication for thirty-six years; and | ||||
WHEREAS, CHIEF JACK L. VAN ETTEN began his law enforcement career as a part-time Sheriff’s Cadet with the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office while attending the University of San Francisco in the early 1970’s and was hired by the City of Burlingame Police Department in 1974, where he rose through the ranks and worked in virtually every sworn position and capacity within the department, including specialized assignments in Investigations and Field Operations, and served as the Commanding Officer in all of the major divisions within the police department before being appointed as Burlingame’s 9th Police Chief in May 2004; and | ||||
WHEREAS, CHIEF JACK L. VAN ETTEN has been a lifelong resident of San Mateo County who grew up in Half Moon Bay and attended local grade schools and Serra High School before attending the University of San Francisco, has been a resident of Burlingame since 1976 and has been an active member of the community with numerous organizations, including as president of both the Burlingame Lions Club and the Peninsula Council of Lions Club and current president of the 100 Club of San Mateo County, among many other professional associations, memberships and achievements; and | ||||
WHEREAS, CHIEF JACK L. VAN ETTEN has been the recipient of numerous commendations and awards within the Burlingame Police Department and the community, including the Peninsula Lions Club Heroism Award, State Attorney General’s Office Meritorious Service Award, and the Outstanding Lions Club President’s Award from San Francisco and San Mateo Counties. | ||||
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, on January 4, 2010, hereby commends CHIEF JACK L. VAN ETTEN for his 36 years of service to the Burlingame Police Department, congratulates him on his well deserved retirement and extends its best wishes on his future endeavors with his wife Lynn, daughter Kristi, family and friends. | ||||
