PROCLAMATION DECLARING
|
CHINESE NEW YEAR 2010
YEAR OF THE TIGER
|

WHEREAS, the Tiger is one of twelve animals in the Chinese zodiac related to the Chinese calendar; and
|
|
|
WHEREAS, the Tiger is a natural born leader and symbolizes power, passion and daring, those born under the Year of the Tiger share similar characteristics such as being courageous, active, optimistic, passionate, and dynamic; and
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Chinese New Year celebrations include people wearing red clothes and giving children "lucky money" in red envelopes; and
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Chinese New Year starts with a family reunion dinner on New Year’s Eve spent bidding farewell to the old year and thanking one’s ancestors for their blessing and protection; and
|
WHEREAS, Chinese New Year 2010 is the Year of the Tiger and is celebrated by the Chinese-American community in San Mateo County beginning on February 14, 2010.
|
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby designates Chinese New Year 2010 as the Year Of The Tiger and encourages all San Mateo County residents to participate in the festivities in order to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the contributions of Chinese Americans. .
