RESOLUTION ACCEPTING A DONATION TO THE COUNTY OF SAN MATEO CORONER’S OFFICE SAVE-A-LIFE PROGRAM IN THE AMOUNT OF $5000.00 FROM THE SUMMUT FAMILY FOUNDATION
______________________________________________________________
RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that
WHEREAS In 2008, the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office began preliminary investigation and subsequent plans to begin a program in conjunction with the San Mateo County Juvenile Court. The Save-A-Life Program is a progressive and innovative step toward addressing the reduction and prevention of reckless and violent behavior of juveniles in San Mateo County, including the use and abuse of alcohol and other drugs.
WHEREAS, The Sammut Family Foundation has donated $5,000.00 to the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office Save-A-Life Program to be used for start-up costs associated with program development and initial computer costs, printing costs and distribution of program literature; meeting facilitation with San Mateo County criminal justice partners to explain the program and its benefits; creation and evaluation of a pilot program in early 2010 on a select group of youth referred by the Juvenile Court; and community outreach detailing the program and the benefits we hope to realize for youth that have exhibited reckless or violent behavior.
WHEREAS, Approval of this donation contributes to the Shared Vision 2025 outcome of a Collaborative Community by assisting the Juvenile Court and the Probation Department in teaching at-risk youth the devastating and potential life ending results of reckless and/or violent behavior. The program will include a “Contract for Change” that will assist participants in making meaningful positive changes in their behavior or lifestyle.
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the $5,000 Donation from the Sammut Family Foundation be accepted.
