RESOLUTION CONSENTING TO AND AUTHORIZING THE NOMINATION BY THE SAN MATEO COUNTY HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION OF THE SAN MATEO COUNTY COURTHOUSE LOCATED AT 2200 BROADWAY, REDWOOD CITY, FOR DESIGNATION AS A CALIFORNIA HISTORICAL LANDMARK IN THE CALIFORNIA OFFICE OF HISTORIC PRESERVATION, AND; AUTHORIZING THE COUNTY MANAGER OR HIS DESIGNEE TO EXECUTE CONSENTS, NOTICES, AND DOCUMENTS ASSOCIATED WITH THE NOMINATION AND DESIGNATION.

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, the San Mateo County Courthouse, the third courthouse to be located at 2200 Broadway in Redwood City, was erected in 1910 on land donated to the County by S.M. Mezes and the Arguello family; and

WHEREAS, the San Mateo County History Museum (the “Museum”) took occupancy of the Courthouse in October 1998 and undertook renovations to improve ADA access, earthquake safety, and other museum improvements; and

WHEREAS, The San Mateo County Historical Association (the “Association”), which operates the Museum, desires to submit an application, nominating the Courthouse for designation as a California Historical Landmark, and said Application requires consent of the County as the property owner; and

WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors has been presented with and considered information regarding the effects of designation as a California Historical Landmark.

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors by adoption of this resolution hereby consent to and authorize the nomination by the San Mateo County Historical Association of the San Mateo County Courthouse located at 2200 Broadway, Redwood City, for designation as a California Historical Landmark in the California Office of Historic Preservation; and

IT IS FURTHER DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the County Manager or his designee is hereby authorized to accept or execute consents, notices, and documents associated with the nomination and designation.
