Appointments to SMC Event Center Board of Directors

RECOMMENDATION:

Appoint Ms. Kari Foppiano of San Mateo and Mr. Jonathan Gervais of Belmont to partial terms on the San Mateo County Event Center Board of Directors.

BACKGROUND:

There are two vacancies on the Event Center’s seven-member Board of Directors. The vacancies resulted from the departures of Ms. Melanie Hildebrand and Mr. Anthony Clifford. Their terms expired Sept. 30, 2009.

If appointed, Ms. Foppiano and Mr. Gervais would each serve partial terms expiring Sept. 30, 2012. Event Center directors are each allowed a maximum of four, three-year terms.

DISCUSSION:

Ms. Foppiano holds a bachelor’s degree in social work, a master’s degree in education and California Clear Elementary Credentials. She also has extensive work experience in the public and private sectors.

Mr. Gervais is the current parks and recreation director for the City of Belmont. He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science and has completed an executive leadership training program through the US Dept. of Agriculture.

Both would be great assets for the Event Center.
