Position changes at San Mateo Medical Center

RECOMMENDATION:
|
Adopt an Ordinance amending the salary ordinance to add and delete positions in the San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) division of the Health System.
|
|
BACKGROUND:
|
The receiving and warehouse sections of Materials Management require a supervisory position to oversee and coordinate day-to-day functions of the receiving dock. Along with the safe storage of supplies, paperwork must be completed in order to generate the vendor payments in the Accounts Payable department. This position will also be directly responsible for Inventory Control procedures within the department.

DISCUSSION:
|
In Materials Management, receiving and warehousing activities are handled by an employee presently classified as a Utility Worker II. The employee has retired. The Utility Worker II position will be deleted and a Storekeeping Supervisor–E position will be added. This action will not impact any other filled positions within the Health System.
|

The salary ordinance changes herein represent the:
|
• addition of one position; and
|
• deletion of one position.
|
|
Below is a summary of the requested salary ordinance changes needed to implement the personnel changes at SMMC:

Action:
|
Delete: One (1) vacant position of T063 Utility Worker II.
Add: One (1) position of E410 Storekeeping Supervisor-E
|
Explanation:
|
The Storekeeper Supervisor will have direct supervisory responsibility over the warehouse and receiving functions, and supervise the personnel involved in these activities. These changes represent an estimated annual salary and benefits cost of $14,328 with no change in the total number of authorized positions.
|

The Salary Ordinance amendment has been reviewed and approved by the County Counsel.
|
|
This Amendment contributes to the Shared Vision 2025 outcome of a Healthy Community. By accurately reflecting the now open position and the duties needed to successfully perform this job, recruitment efforts will identify the best candidate to fulfill the job responsibilities. It is anticipated that this change will guide the warehouse staff and purchasers in ordering the correct stock levels and accurately issuing the stock to the end users.

FISCAL IMPACT:
|
This action represents an estimated increase in monthly salary and benefits cost of $1,194.00 or an annual cost of $14,328.00. The increased cost will be included in the SMMC proposed FY 2010 -11 Budget. Expenses at SMMC are covered by fees for service or third party payers, whenever possible. The portion of expenses for services provided to the medically indigent or to those covered by programs that do not meet the full costs of care are covered by the County’s General Fund contribution to SMMC.
