TO:

Honorable Board of Supervisors

FROM:

David G. Holland, Director, Department of Parks

SUBJECT:

Approve an Appropriation Transfer Request in the Amount of $785,000 from the San Mateo County Parks and Recreation Foundation for the Bill and Jean Lane Education Center Capital Improvement Project at Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve

RECOMMENDATION:

Approve an Appropriation Transfer Request in the amount of $785,000 from the San Mateo County Parks and Recreation Foundation for the Bill and Jean Lane Education Center Capital Improvement Project at Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve with $280,504 to the Parks Acquisition and Development Fund and $504,496 to the Parks Dedication Trust Fund.

BACKGROUND:

The Bill and Jean Lane Education Center at Edgewood County Park and Natural Preserve (Education Center) is a project on the Capital Improvement Project listing. The Board of Supervisors at their regularly scheduled January 26, 2010 meeting approved Resolution No. 070608 approving the transfer of $504,496 from the Parks Dedication Trust Fund to fully fund the project with those funds transferred to the Department of Public Works who are overseeing the construction contract.

DISCUSSION:

The San Mateo County Parks and Recreation Foundation has raised $785,000 for the Education Center project. This Appropriation Transfer Request will authorize the acceptance of $785,000 from the Foundation to the Parks Acquisition and Development Fund with $280,504 of those funds remaining in that fund to partially offset what was budgeted for the Education Center. The remaining $504,496 will repay the Parks Dedication Trust Fund for the same amount transferred to the Department of Public Works by Resolution No. 070608 on January 26, 2010.
