PROCLAMATION DESIGNATING APRIL 11, 2010 AS

WORLD HEALTH DAY 2010

PROCLAIMED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, World Health Day has been celebrated annually since 1950, commemorating the founding of the World Health Organization, and it has since been a worldwide opportunity to focus on a key public health issue affecting the international community; and

WHEREAS, World Health Day 2010 will focus on urbanization and public health with its “1000 Cities, 1000 Lives” campaign, which will open streets and public spaces to healthy, community-building activities for people in 1000 participating cities worldwide; and

WHEREAS, San Mateo County values healthy people and healthy communities, believing strongly that innovation, collaboration and a healthy economy start with healthy people, neighborhoods and communities; and

WHEREAS, San Mateo County will be participating in the “1000 Cities, 1000 Lives” campaign as an expression of its commitment to healthy people and healthy communities by collaborating with cities within San Mateo County to open streets and public spaces to people on April 11, 2010;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County hereby designates April 11, 2010 as World Health Day 2010 in San Mateo County by participating in this international celebration of active public spaces and healthy communities.
