WHEREAS, a decade ago, Kerry Lobel joined the Puente Resource Center, or Puente de la Costa Sur, as a volunteer, and in 2007, became executive director of this small, yet vital, organization serving coastal communities south of Half Moon Bay; and
WHEREAS, just an hour’s drive from the wealth of Silicon Valley, the sparsely populated southern coast of San Mateo County lacks certain basics ranging from a full-service grocery store to children’s programs to affordable housing and health care; and
WHEREAS, under Kerry’s guidance, Puente has gathered and focused resources from groups and individuals, public and private, to encourage and engage what otherwise would be a severely underserved and almost invisible population; and
WHEREAS, among Puente’s clients, Kerry’s leadership and efforts have created a renewed sense of hope, empowerment, confidence, respect for self and others, plus the knowledge and strength to make a difference as one community; and
WHEREAS, Kerry’s own words best sum up her tireless spirit and philosophy: “By working together, there is so much more that we can do, not only to transform physical spaces, but the very society in which we live.”
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates Kerry Lobel upon her induction into the San Mateo County Women’s Hall of Fame. The Board hereby expresses its gratitude to Kerry and adds sincere wishes for continued success and excellence.
