RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING AND COMMENDING

Julia McKay McKeon

Upon Her Induction Into The

San Mateo County Women’s Hall of Fame

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, Julia McKay McKeon started improving health care on the San Mateo County coast in 1988, when she joined the advisory board of the Coastside RotaCare Clinic, which focuses on the uninsured and the underinsured; and

   

WHEREAS, in 2000, as project director of a joint venture between the Partnership for Public Health and the San Mateo County Health Department, Julia led grass-roots efforts to create several health-related programs for the coast, including the Movin’ on the Coast Fitness Fair; Puente Resource Center; the Community Leadership Training Program; and the Sonrisas Community Dental Center; and

   

WHEREAS, beyond the physical, mental and dental health care needs of low-income coastside residents, Julia has encouraged members of this same underserved community to embrace educational opportunities; results include all dental assistants at Sonrisas being from the local Hispanic community; and

   

WHEREAS, Julia’s leadership and dedication to her coastside community have created positive effects that benefit at least two – perhaps three – generations on the coast and throughout San Mateo County.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County congratulates Julia McKay McKeon upon her induction into the San Mateo County Women’s Hall of Fame. The Board hereby expresses its gratitude to Julia and adds sincere wishes for continued success and excellence.
