BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION:

A)

WAIVING THE COMPETITIVE BID PROCESS; AND

B)

AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASING AGENT TO PURCHASE A TALON GENERATION IV ROBOT FROM TALON–ROBOTICS, A DIVISION OF FOSTER-MILLER IN THE AMOUNT OF $117,659

 

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, the Sheriff’s Office operates the only Bomb Squad in the County; and

WHEREAS, the Bomb Squad responds to every jurisdiction in the County and is on-call seven days a week; and

WHEREAS, there has been presented to this Board of Supervisors for its consideration and acceptance, a request to the Purchasing Agent to issue a Purchase Order with Talon- Robotics, a division of Foster-Miller, for an Talon-Generation IV Robot for the Bomb Squad; and

WHEREAS, Talon-Robotics has manufactured a robot with the ability to remotely detect chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear material without having a human being in a potential hot zone to deploy detection equipment; and

WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the County to waive the Competitive Bid Process on the basis that Talon-Robotics is the sole source manufacturer of a robot with multi-function mobile platform capabilities; and

    NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the Board of Supervisors waives the Competitive Bid Process and authorizes the Purchase of a Talon Generation IV Robot from Talon –Robotics, a division of Foster-Miller in the amount of $117, 659.
