RESOLUTION UPON THE RETIREMENT OF

 

Elsa Dawson

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, Elsa Dawson is retiring after thirty five years of employment for the County of San Mateo; and

   

WHEREAS, prior to coming to the County, Elsa was raised in Chicago after emigrating from Cuba and attended Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois; and

   

WHEREAS, Elsa Dawson, began her thirty-five year career in Social Services as an Eligibility Worker for families in San Mateo County; and

   

WHEREAS, Ms. Dawson continued her career as a supervisor working in various programs; program specialist and trainer; manager overseeing program and office operations, welfare reform, collaborations with other departments and community based organizations; and

 

WHEREAS, Elsa Dawson has served as Economic Self-Sufficiency Director for the Human Services Agency since September 2005, directing CalWORKs, Food Stamps, General Assistance, Medi-Cal, Vocational Rehabilitation Services, the Workforce Invest Act programs; and

 

WHEREAS, Elsa Dawson, has initiated and supported a number of innovative programs designed to promote vital services to communities, which included a collaboration responsible for promoting and implementing Healthy Kids in San Mateo County, a children’s Health Insurance program; increasing and retaining Medi-Cal eligible families; and implementation of San Mateo’s Welfare Reform Model, Shared Undertaking to Change the Community to enable Self Sufficiency (SUCCESS).

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County does hereby congratulate Elsa Dawson on her retirement and extend its best wishes to Elsa on her future endeavors.
