THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA HONORS AND COMMENDS

DANNETTE YOUNG MITCHELL

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, DANNETTE YOUNG MITCHELL has been employed as a Social Worker with the San Mateo County Human Services Agency, Children and Family Services Division, since 1989; first as an Emergency Response Social Worker. As a Kinship Support Services Social Worker, she assisted grandparents and other relatives acting as caregivers to a second generation of children. As a Voluntary Case Social Worker, she helped parents and children to remain an intact family unit; and she was a Social Worker Field Instructor for San Jose State, San Francisco State and Cal State East Bay in their Master of Social Work Interns program; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. MITCHELL has been an active member of the Mills-Peninsula African American Community Health Advisory Committee since its inception fifteen years ago. She has hosted programs for grandparents on guardianship, physical, mental health and proactive health intervention programs as well as workshops for Women’s and Men’s Health issues; and

   

WHEREAS, Ms. MITCHELL has served as a member of the San Francisco-Peninsula Delta Foundation’s Board of Directors working diligently to generate funds through The Jennifer Holiday Extravaganza, An Evening with Gershwin, to support students’ college education. She has also mentored African American students via the NIA Mentoring Project; and

 

WHEREAS, Ms. MITCHELL is a forty-one year member of the public service sorority, Delta Sigma Theta, actively serving in many positions, including two terms as chapter President in 1995-1999 and 2006-2008. She is currently Co-Chair of Arts and Letters, was appointed as a Regional Committee Member of Project ACE and National Committee Member of Housing and Properties, and is the Secondary Advisor to Omicron Chi City Wide Chapter; and

   

WHEREAS, Ms. MITCHELL was selected as a recipient of the San Francisco-Peninsula Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s highest award, the Bertha Pitts Campbell Award, because of her dedication to the chapter’s mission.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby commends Dannette Young Mitchell for her years of service to the residents of San Mateo County.
