TO:

Honorable Board of Supervisors

FROM:

Supervisor Mark Church

SUBJECT:

Appointment to the Fatherhood Collaborative Board

RECOMMENDATION:

Approve the appointment of Matthew Radisch to the Fatherhood Collaborative Board, term expiring December 31, 2011.

BACKGROUND:

Fatherhood Collaborative Advisory Board member Gary Beasley, representing the Human Services Agency on the Board, has resigned now that the Fatherhood Collaborative office is under the umbrella of that agency and he is the manager. He has selected Matthew Radisch to replace him, and the Fatherhood Collaborative Advisory Board has approved his appointment.

DISCUSSION:

This seat represents the Human Services Agency on the Fatherhood Collaborative Advisory Board. It is a two-year term, expiring December 31, 2011.

Matthew Radisch is currently a Social Work Supervisor with the Human Services Agency overseeing the Home Finding Unit. He first became aware of the work of the Collaborative in 2005, when, as his agency’s Child Welfare Training Coordinator, he appropriated grant funds to purchase Basic and Advanced Fatherhood Training Curriculum Packages for trainings the Collaborative was sponsoring at the county’s Family Resource Centers. His interest continues to stem from the ways that fathers’ roles are perceived and at times confined by institutions that interact with them and their children – these include the juvenile justice system, dependency court, and the various child protective services program areas that he has been involved with over the years.

This appointment maintains and reinforces the Shared Vision 2025 outcome of a Collaborative Community by providing continued representation from the Human Services Agency on the Board.

FISCAL IMPACT:

None.
