SUBJECT:
Donation to the STD/HIV Program
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt a Resolution accepting a donation of $10,000 for the STD/HIV Program.
BACKGROUND:
The STD/HIV Program (SHP) works to prevent HIV infection and cares for individuals and families affected by HIV/AIDS in San Mateo County. The Program provides a continuum of services, which include outpatient medical care, comprehensive, community-based prevention and testing services, HIV related social services, advocacy, and referrals to community agencies providing drug treatment, housing, in-home care, food, dental care and other services.
DISCUSSION:
SHP received an anonymous donation specifically designated to provide services to individuals with HIV/AIDS. The amount of the donation will be used to offset the cost of medical services provided to Edison Clinic clients with HIV/AIDS.
The Resolution has been reviewed and approved by County Counsel.
Approval of this Resolution contributes to the Shared Vision 2025 outcome of a Healthy Community by providing a continuum of medical and support services to San Mateo County residents affected by HIV/AIDS. It is anticipated that 97% of clients will report improved nutrition due to the receipt of food services.
