Acceptance of $20,000 in Cooperative Agreement Funds from the United States Fish and Wildlife Partners in Fish and Wildlife Program for the Buffering Rare Species Habitat at Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve Project

 

RECOMMENDATION:

Adopt a Resolution:

A)

Approving the acceptance of a United States Fish and Wildlife Service Partners for Fish and Wildlife Cooperative Agreement funds in the amount of $20,000 for the Buffering Rare Species Habitat at Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve Project; and

B)

Authorizing the Director of the Department of Parks or his designee to execute in the name of the County of San Mateo all necessary contracts, agreements, amendments, payment requests, and electronic funds transfer hereto for the purposes of implementing the purposes specified in the cooperative agreement.

 

BACKGROUND:

The “Buffering Rare Species Habitat at Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve Project” is a project that will support the implementation of upland restoration activities that improve habitat for several federally-listed plant and invertebrate species of concern as well as migratory songbirds and more common wildlife species. The overall project will enhance about 35 acres of habitat within the 467-acre Edgewood Natural Preserve to increase its ability to support listed and other at-risk species.

 

DISCUSSION:

Over the three years of the Buffering Rare Species Habitat at Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve Project, the Department will provide $183,300 of in-kind contributions from other existing corporate and government grants as well as significant docent and habitat restoration volunteer support. This Resolution will authorize the acceptance of $20,000 from the United States Fish and Wildlife Service to the Parks Acquisition and Development Fund.

This Cooperative Agreement contributes to the Shared Vision 2025 for an Environmentally Conscious Community as habitat restoration at the Edgewood Park and Natural Preserve, which the funds will support, will provide environmental stewardship education now and in the future.

 

County Counsel has approved the Resolution as to form.

There is no fiscal impact for this transaction or project.
