RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE COUNTY OF SAN MATEO’S PARTICIPATION IN THE BAY AREA CLIMATE COLLABORATIVE AND AFFIRMING SUPPORT OF THE COLLABORATIVE’S PURPOSE AND VISION

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, the County of San Mateo recognizes that our reliance on foreign fuels is dangerous, and erodes local and national security; and

WHEREAS, the County of San Mateo understands that an economy based on clean energy increases our energy independence, reduces the impacts of climate change and creates economic opportunity, especially in the Bay Area; and

WHEREAS, the State of California has established climate change goals set forth in AB 32, the Global Warming Solutions Act; and

WHEREAS, the County of San Mateo recognizes that common direction in the region will accelerate the clean energy economy and help meet the climate change goals established by the State; and

WHEREAS, the County of San Mateo has established (or will establish) public and/or organizational clean energy and greenhouse gas reduction goals and programs; and

WHEREAS, , the County of San Mateo understands the challenges of growing the clean energy economy, and global warming are regional in nature and can be best addressed in partnership with other agencies and private entities; and

WHEREAS, the Bay Area Climate Collaborative is a public-private partnership of municipalities, business groups, regional agencies, environmental organizations and educational institutions; and

WHEREAS, the Bay Area Climate Collaborative is dedicated to achieving 10 action area goals to effectively accelerate the clean energy economy, address the challenge of climate change and sustain our quality of life, as defined in the Bay Area Climate Change Compact.

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, that the County of San Mateo:

(1) Joins the Bay Area Climate Collaborative; and

(2) Agrees to incorporate the Bay Area Climate Collaborative’s 10 action area goals into the climate change goals of the County of San Mateo, wherever possible; and

(3) Agrees to have staff participate in Bay Area Climate Collaborative’s working groups that are relevant to the County of San Mateo’s goals and objectives.
