THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

PROCLAMATION HONORING AND COMMENDING MAY 2010 AS

 
VETERANS APPRECIATION MONTH

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

 

PROCLAIMED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

   
 

WHEREAS, the people of our community have great appreciation and admiration for the many local men and women who have served the country in the armed forces in order to protect and preserve the freedoms enjoyed by our community and by all Americans; and

   
 

WHEREAS, special recognition is paid to the sacrifice made by our wounded and disabled veterans and to acknowledge and honor their hard work and courage to regain health and strength; and

   
 

WHEREAS, some VETERANS have encountered obstacles in readjusting to civilian life and many of them disabled, represent a significant share of California’s homeless population; and

 
 

WHEREAS, VETERANS possess a wide variety of valuable job qualifications and skills, including experience, maturity, leadership, and loyalty, that make them ideal candidates for employment; and

   
 

WHEREAS, the Human Services Agency staff, in conjunction with the Local Veterans Employment Representatives from the Employment Development Department, are committed to ensuring that VETERANS receive all the services and programs to which they are entitled, and achieve self-sufficiency,

   
 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County do hereby proclaim May 2010 as VETERANS APPRECIATION MONTH in San Mateo County, and urge all local employers, organized labor, VETERANS’ organizations, and other government leaders to support this worthy campaign to increase employment opportunities for the men and women who have faithfully served our nation in the military.
