RESOLUTION HONORING AND COMMENDING

HILLSBOROUGH

CENTENNIAL CELEBRATION

100 YEARS OF COMMUNITY

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, in 1846, William Davis Merry Howard and his wife, Agnes Poett Howard, purchased “Rancho San Mateo,” a tract of over 6,000 acres that encompassed most of what today is Hillsborough, Burlingame and part of San Mateo; and

   

WHEREAS, the Burlingame Country Club was established in 1893 as an incentive to attract homeowners from San Francisco, and in February 1910 Club leaders filed incorporation papers with the County Board of Supervisors, and on April 25, 1910, residents of the area voted 60 to 1 to ratify the incorporation of the newly formed town of Hillsborough; and

   

WHEREAS, the Town of Hillsborough was officially incorporated on May 5, 1910, and at the time had 89 registered voters out of an estimated population of 750; and

   

WHEREAS, the Town of Hillsborough has continually worked to preserve the unique nature and charm of Hillsborough that has made it one of the most desirable places to live in the Bay Area.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, on May 5, 2010, hereby honors, commends and congratulates the Town of Hillsborough, California on the Celebration of its 100th Anniversary.
