Greg Munks, Sheriff

SUBJECT:

Acceptance of a $9,000 Donation from the San Mateo Credit Union

RECOMMENDATION:

Adopt a Resolution accepting a donation in the amount of $9,000 from the San Mateo Credit Union.

BACKGROUND:

The Sheriff’s Community Policing Unit includes programs such as School Resources, Sheriff’s Activity League (SAL), Drug Awareness and Resistance Education (DARE), Neighborhood Watch, and the North Fair Oaks Festival. The programs provide positive citizen-law enforcement exchanges and assist in building and maintaining strong communication with communities to better detect and prevent criminal activities.

In 2009, the Community Policing Unit was recognized by the STARS Program and your Board for outstanding community customer service for the Sheriff’s Child Safety Seat Education Program. This program serves over 150 families a year in inspecting child car seats and training new parents in proper installation specific to their car model and safety seat model, resulting in San Mateo County having significantly lower vehicle related child injury and death rates than the national average.

DISCUSSION:

The Sheriff’s Office received a donation from the San Mateo Credit Union in the amount of $9,000. The donation is specifically designated to purchase an inflatable outdoor theater screen and projection package. The screen and projector will be used by the Sheriff’s Office for community programs, youth and family events, school functions and much more.

The donation from the San Mateo Credit Union will help strengthen the positive relationship between law enforcement and the community.

County Counsel has reviewed and approved the Resolution as to form.

Acceptance of this donation contributes to the Shared Vision 2025 outcome of a Healthy Community by promoting community events and civic engagement programs throughout the County.
