RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING

Joseph W. Cotchett

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, Joseph Cotchett is receiving Notre Dame de Namur University’s Community Spirit Award; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Cotchett graduated from California Polytechnic College, San Luis Obispo, as an Outstanding Graduate in 1960, and from the Hastings Law College at the University of California in 1964; and

WHEREAS, in addition to his outstanding work with charities, non-profit organizations, and educational institutions throughout California, Joseph has been named one of the one hundred most influential lawyers in the nation for the past ten years; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Cotchett is passionate about aiding the less fortunate and working towards social justice. His career has involved extensive pro bono work, representation of the disadvantaged, and serving as a champion for justice; and

WHEREAS, Joseph Cotchett’s civic work includes both past and present membership on the Board of Directors of the San Mateo County Heart Association, San Mateo Boys & Girls Club, Peninsula Association of Retarded Children and Adults, Bay Meadows Foundation, and Disability Rights Advocates; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Cotchett’s has set a model example through his sustained commitment to improving the quality of life for others and has touched the lives of many in his community throughout his career.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County does hereby congratulate Joseph Cotchett on his receiving Notre Dame de Namur University’s Community Spirit Award, and extends its best wishes to her in the coming years.
