HONORS AND COMMENDS

DR. PATRICK R. GEMMA, ED.D.

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Whereas, Dr. Patrick R. Gemma has served as Superintendent of the Sequoia Union High School District (SUHSD) since February 2003 ; and

 

Whereas, as Superintendent of SUHSD, Dr. Gemma oversaw successful bond measures supporting $200 million in facility and technology enhancements, and led the process of developing a new vision: All students are engaged and prepared to excel in a 21st century global society; and

 

Whereas, Dr. Gemma advanced a comprehensive career-technical education initiative, which offers students the unique opportunity to explore college majors and careers in diverse, high-growth fields; and

   

Whereas, Dr. Gemma was named the Superintendent of the Year by the Association of California School Administrators in recognition of his collaborative leadership and ability to get the best out of site leaders and district staff for the purpose of providing quality education to students; and

 

Whereas, Dr. Gemma earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and Psychology, and a Teaching Credential from St. Mary’s College, a Masters of Science in School Administration and an Administrative Services Credential from California State University – East Bay, and his doctorate in Education Leadership from the University of La Verne; and

   

Whereas, SUHSD encompasses four award-winning, comprehensive, pubic high schools, a model continuation high school, middle college and other specialized programs with over 16,000 students; and

 

Whereas, many young people found summer employment when, under Dr. Gemma’s leadership, SUHSD became a major donor and Employer-Sponsor of One East Palo Alto’s Sponsored Employment Program; and

 

Whereas, Dr. Gemma has shown unwavering commitment to ensuring that each student receives the necessary tools to succeed.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of

San Mateo, State of California, hereby commends Dr. Patrick R. Gemma for his dedication

to excellent education for students in San Mateo County.
