SUBJECT:

California Department of Boating and Waterways Clean Vessel Act Grant for the Coyote Point Marina Pumpout Station Project

RECOMMENDATION:

Adopt a Resolution:

1)

Approving the application for, and acceptance of, a California Department of Boating and Waterways Clean Vessel Act grant in the amount of $10,000 for the Coyote Point Marina Pumpout Station Project;

2)

Authorizing the Director of the Department of Parks, or his designee, to execute in the name of the County of San Mateo County all necessary applications, contracts, agreements, amendments and payment requests hereto to implement the purposes specified in the grant application and agreeing to make the necessary grant assurances.

BACKGROUND:

The Department of Parks would like to submit a grant application to the California Department of Boating and Waterways Clean Vessel Act Grant Program in the amount of $10,000 for the Coyote Point Marina Pumpout Station Project.

The Coyote Point Marina has 545 slips serving boaters with vessels ranging in size from 20 feet to 65 feet. Our current pumpout station, purchased in 2002, using a grant from California Department of Boating and Waterways, has significantly deteriorated and begun to leak. As the pumpout station is in use 24 hours per day for this large number of boaters, we must immediately replace the pump to continue to provide our high level of customer service and avoid contamination of the San Francisco Bay.

DISCUSSION:

Approval of this application to the California Department of Boating and Waterways Clean Vessel Act Grant Program contributes to the Shared Vision 2025 outcome of a livable community as replacement of a pumpout station at Coyote Point Marina supports a high quality of life for the many boaters who enjoy taking their boats out in the San Francisco Bay and protects the Bay’s water quality. Our berthers depend on our services at Coyote Point Marina to support this fun activity.

County Counsel has reviewed and approved the Resolution as to form.
