RESOLUTION:

A.

WAIVING THE REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL PROCESS; AND

B.

AUTHORIZING THE PURCHASING AGENT TO PURCHASE A GENEXPERT 4 MODULE WITH BIO THREAT CALIBRATION FROM CEPHEID IN THE AMOUNT OF $121,000.

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, a portion of awarded funding from the FY09 State Homeland Security Grant Program has been allocated towards the purchase of a GeneXpert 4 Module manufactured by Cepheid; and

WHEREAS, the GeneXpert 4 Module has the capability to quickly determine the composition of unknown diseases and potential bio-threat agents; and

WHEREAS, the GeneXpert 4 Module can perform analysis of unknown biological agents in minutes with minimal exposure for Technicians of the Public Health Laboratory; and

WHEREAS, waiving the Request for Proposal process is being requested since the Public Health Laboratory currently uses a similar GeneXpert unit which will allow for compatibility of existing supplies and training; and

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the Board of Supervisors waives the Request for Proposal process and authorizes the Purchasing Agent to purchase a GeneXpert 4 Module with bio threat calibration from Cepheid in the amount of $121,000.
