Mount Olive
Missionary Baptist Church

On its 50th Anniversary

Whereas, Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church was conceived on December 8th 1960 by community members, gathered in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Clay, who saw a need for a church in the Palo Alto Gardens neighborhood in East Palo Alto; and

 

Whereas, these community members organized and constituted as a fellowship which later became known as the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church; and

   

Whereas, on June 2nd, 1961 Mount Olive Baptist Church purchased the property and began building in 1964; and

 

Whereas, the present Pastor, Reverend John W. Waiters, began his leadership on October 1st, 1977, and proceeded to grow the church and congregation; and

   

Whereas, the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church has served residents of East Palo Alto and San Mateo County by providing a supportive, nurturing community church for those who seek it; and

 

Whereas, this year marks the 50th Anniversary of their tireless work and vision to build this Church in service to the community;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby recognizes the Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church on the occasion of its 50th Anniversary.
