RESOLUTION
|
IN SUPPORT OF SAN MATEO COUNTY’S PARTICIPATION IN A COLLABORATIVE PROPOSAL FOR A REGIONAL BIKE SHARING PROGRAM TO BE SUBMITTED TO THE METROPOLITAN TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION BY THE BAY AREA AIR QUALITY MANAGEMENT DISTRICT

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that
|
|
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission has issued a request for proposals for the Bay Area Climate Initiative Innovative Grant Program; and
|
|
WHEREAS, the County of San Mateo partnered with the City of Redwood City to submit a letter of interest that included a bike sharing program for city and county employees; and
|
|
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission recommended that the San Francisco Municipal Transit Authority, the County of San Mateo, Redwood City, SamTrans and the Valley Transit Authority join together with the Bay Area Air Quality Management District to submit a regional bike sharing proposal; and
|
|
WHEREAS, the aforementioned entities have come together to develop a collaborative proposal that will offer bike sharing at transit hubs and other locations in San Francisco, San Jose, Redwood City and one or two more cities in Santa Clara County; and
|
|
WHEREAS, if funded, the bike sharing program will offer city and county employees in Redwood City the opportunity to bike to offsite meetings or use a bike for exercise or errands on breaks and lunch hours; and
|
|
WHEREAS, access to a bike fleet on the County campus should have multiple benefits including reducing vehicle miles traveled and associated carbon emissions and providing exercise opportunities for employees during the workday.

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the Board of Supervisors supports the participation of the County in a collaborative proposal headed by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District for a regional bike sharing program that includes Redwood City as a hub to be submitted to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.
