BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA

RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE: A) PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD TO EXECUTE AN AMENDMENT TO THE AGREEMENT WITH HEALTHCARE COST SOLUTIONS, INC., FOR THE TERM OF MARCH 1, 2009 THROUGH FEBRUARY 28, 2011, AND INCREASING THE AMOUNT OF THE AGREEMENT BY $50,000, FROM $100,000 TO A NEW MAXIMUM FISCAL OBLIGATION OF $150,000; AND B) CHIEF OF THE HEALTH SYSTEM OR DESIGNEE TO EXECUTE CONTRACT AMENDMENTS WHICH MODIFY THE COUNTY’S MAXIMUM FISCAL OBLIGATION BY NO MORE THAN $25,000 (IN AGGREGATE), AND/OR MODIFY THE CONTRACT TERM AND/OR SERVICES SO LONG AS THE MODIFIED TERM OR SERVICES IS/ARE WITHIN THE CURRENT OR REVISED FISCAL PROVISIONS.

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, San Mateo Medical Center (SMMC) has a contract with Healthcare Cost Solutions, Inc. (HCS) to provide coding and Diagnosis Related Group validation audits for the term March 1, 2009, through February 28, 2011, in the amount not to exceed $100,000; and

WHEREAS, HCS is a critical component of SMMC’s Compliance Program, ensuring patient safety, providing guidance to meet the requirements set forth by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, and helping improve coding accuracy in order to positively affect SMMC’s Revenue; and

WHEREAS, an increase of $50,000 to the maximum amount of the Agreement is necessary as a result of an increased need in services and to continue this critical work; and

WHEREAS, there has been presented to this Board of Supervisors for its consideration and acceptance Amendment No. 3 to the Agreement, reference to which is hereby made for further particulars, whereby the maximum amount of the Agreement is increased by $50,000, from $100,000 to $150,000; and

WHEREAS, the Board has considered the Amendment to the Agreement and approved it as to both form and content and desires to enter into it.

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the President of this Board of Supervisors be and is hereby authorized and directed to execute said Amendment to the Agreement for and on behalf of the County of San Mateo, and the Clerk of the Board shall attest the President’s signature thereto.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Chief of the Health System or designee is authorized to execute contract amendments which modify the County’s maximum fiscal obligation by no more than $25,000 (in aggregate), and/or modify the contract term and/or services so long as the modified term or services is/are within the current or revised fiscal provisions.
