SUBJECT:

Appointments and Reappointment to the Confined Animal Technical Advisory Committee

RECOMMENDATION:

Appoint Amber Reed and Lyndall Erb to the Confined Animal Technical Advisory Committee (CATAC). Amber Reed is recommended to be appointed to an Animal Caretaker position for a term expiring March 31, 2014. Lyndall Erb is recommended to be appointed to an Environmental position on the Committee for a term expiring March 31, 2014.

Reappoint Rich Allen to the Confined Animal Technical Advisory Committee as an Animal Caretaker member for a term expiring March 31, 2014.

BACKGROUND:

The Confined Animal Technical Advisory Committee is a nine member Board made up of 5 care takers, 3 members of the environmental community and one member with experience in environmental health.

There are currently three caretaker positions open and one environmental position open.

DISCUSSION:

Amber Reed is a Menlo Park resident and a member of the United States Equestrian Federation. She is a caretaker for a Thoroughbred in Portola Valley. She is on the board of Webb Ranch in Portola Valley and an active member of the Horse Park in Woodside. Ms. Reed’s experience and knowledge of confined animals make her an excellent candidate for the Confined Animal Technical Advisory Committee.

Lyndall Erb is a Montara resident and retired ecologist. She is a Board member for the Coastside Horse Council and has used her background in ecology extensively to assure that horse keeping does not have a detrimental effect on the environment. Her environmental background and work on trail issues in the County make her a strong candidate for the Confined Animal Technical Advisory Committee.

Rich Allen has served on the Committee since 2002 and has done so in an honorable fashion and should be reappointed.
