THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA DESIGNATING AUGUST 2010 AS

CHILD SUPPORT AWARENESS MONTH

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, the children and youth of California and San Mateo County represent the future viability of this State and this Peninsula, and they deserve proper and adequate emotional and financial support from adults responsible for their health, education and overall well-being; and

   

WHEREAS, the San Mateo County Department of Child Support Services remains committed to establishing and enforcing court orders for child support and health insurance, assisting more than 18,000 children and their custodial care-providers; and

   

WHEREAS, in difficult economic times child support can provide a safety net to struggling families and in fiscal year 2009, Child Support Services collected $29.8 million in total payments, of which, more than $27 million was distributed directly to families ; and

   

WHEREAS, the San Mateo County Department of Child Support Services has maintained or improved its performance as of June 2010 compared with the previous year in vital federal and state measures including; cases with a child support order, cases with a current support collection, cases with an arrears payment, cases with medical insurance ordered and provided to the family, and formerly and never aided cases receiving a current support payment; and

 

WHEREAS, the San Mateo County Department of Child Support Services works collaboratively with many community based organizations including the Fatherhood Collaborative of San Mateo County, the Service League of San Mateo County, Free at Last, Job Train and the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to better meet the needs of children and parents in our caseload; and

 

WHEREAS, the San Mateo County Department of Child Support Services will collaborate with the Child Support Director’s Association of California and the California Department of Child Support Services for the “Get Back on the Road” license buy back program to provide further incentives to parents working to meet their child support obligations; and

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby designates August 2010 as Child Support Awareness Month, and the Board further encourages all parents of all backgrounds throughout San Mateo County to increase their understanding of the importance of providing consistent and adequate emotional and financial support for their children regardless of adult relationships.
