______________________________________________________________

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission has issued a request for proposals for the Bay Area Climate Initiative Innovative Grant Program; and

WHEREAS, the County of San Mateo partnered with the City of Redwood City to submit a letter of interest that included a suite of options for reducing vehicle miles traveled by commuters and residents of Redwood City; and

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Transportation Commission recommended that the County of San Mateo, Redwood City and SamTrans collaborate on a joint proposal for a suite of transit options titled “Making the Last Mile Connection”; and

WHEREAS, the aforementioned entities have come together to develop a collaborative proposal that will offer car and bike sharing at transit hubs and other locations in Redwood City in addition to vanpools, telework training and electric charging stations; and

WHEREAS, if funded, the “Making the Last Mile Connection” will offer city and county employees and residents of Redwood City multiple transit alternatives to driving alone in their cars to work and for trips during the work day; and

WHEREAS, giving employees and residents of Redwood City access to transit options should reduce vehicle miles traveled and associated carbon emissions, which will help the County meet the requirements of our Cool County Commitment.

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the Board of Supervisors supports the participation of the County in a collaborative proposal headed by SamTrans titled “Making the Last Mile Connection” to be submitted to the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.
