RECOMMENDATION:
|
Adopt a Resolution accepting the donation of a Barrett 82A1 50 Caliber BMG Semi-automatic Sniper Rifle, serial number 1731, with a Swarovski 10x42 scope from the Ross Estate to the Sheriff’s Office.

BACKGROUND:
|
Pursuant to California Penal Code section 12285(b), any person who obtains title to a registered assault weapon by bequest or intestate succession shall, within 90 days, render the weapon permanently inoperable, sell the weapon to a licensed gun dealer who has a permit from the Department of Justice to purchase assault weapons, obtain a permit from the Department of Justice to possess assault weapons, or remove the weapon from this state.

DISCUSSION:
|
Mr. Tamaro John Ross passed away. Inventory of his personal possessions included a Barrett 82A1 50 Caliber BMG Semi-automatic Sniper Rifle, serial number 1731, with a Swarovski 10x42 scope. Mr. Ross’ surviving family members have concluded that they are prohibited from possessing this weapon pursuant to California law.
The Ross Estate wishes to donate the Barrett 50 Caliber Sniper Rifle to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team.

The current value of this donation is approximately $5,000. There is no Net County Cost.
