THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA PROCLAIMING
THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER, 2010

RECOVERY HAPPENS MONTH

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, the month of September 2010 is National Alcohol and Drug Addiction Recovery Month; and

   

WHEREAS, substance use and co-occurring mental disorders and physical illnesses are major public health problems that affect people of all ages, races, and ethnic backgrounds and in all communities and have a tremendous medical, economic, and societal cost; and

   

WHEREAS, the substance use treatment and prevention providers of San Mateo County, staff from Behavioral Health and Recovery Services, and growing numbers of client advocates have dedicated themselves to the recovery process, saving lives, and to the education of the public about alcoholism, drug use, addiction, co-occurring disorders and other treatment issues; and

   

WHEREAS, every day, in San Mateo County, men, women, and youth enter treatment for substance use and mental disorders and begin the road to wellness and recovery; and

 

WHEREAS, persons in recovery lead sober, productive lives as workers, students, parents, citizens, and taxpayers as a direct result of prevention, treatment, and recovery services; and

   

WHEREAS, acknowledging these efforts in September 2010 offers advocates of recovery an opportunity to educate the public and policymakers about prevention, treatment and recovery;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby designates the month of September, 2010 as “RECOVERY HAPPENS MONTH.”
