RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING

 

The 35th Anniversary of the Richard J. Elkus Ranch

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, the Richard J. Elkus Ranch was founded was donated in 1975 to the University of California by Mr. and Mrs. Richard J. Elkus to provide an educational center for San Francisco Bay Area youth to get a hands-on learning experience; and

   

WHEREAS, Elkus Ranch provides programs that make it possible for youth with disabilities or financial hardships to experience the outdoor environment and have the opportunity to grow and develop through an outdoor classroom; and

   

WHEREAS, each year, Elkus Ranch hosts more than 6,000 youth and adults from throughout the Bay Area including many from San Mateo County; and

   

WHEREAS, Elkus Ranch provides for a variety of educational programs for children of all ages and ethnicities including overnight field trips, community service projects, internships and volunteer programs; and

 

WHEREAS, since its founding 35 years ago, Elkus Ranch has made the difference in the lives of thousands of local youth.

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County does hereby recognize and congratulate the Richard J. Elkus Ranch on its 35th anniversary and share our gratitude for its contributions to the education of our community.
