RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING

 

The 60th Anniversary of Family Service Agency of San Mateo County

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

WHEREAS, the Family Service Agency of San Mateo opened its doors in 1950 with a focus on providing individual counseling services; and

   

WHEREAS, during the 1960s and 1970s Family Service expanded in to non-counseling programs and an office was opened in Menlo Park to serve low-income families with increased services such as child care programs; and

   

WHEREAS, the Family Service Agency further expanded its services in the 1980s and 1990s to include employment aid and nutrition programs for seniors in addition to creating the Way to Work Family Loan Program designed to help families obtain reliable transportation; and

   

WHEREAS, since 2000, Family Service has focused more on fostering self-sufficiency among its clients and has implemented new programs to help with this goal; and

 

WHEREAS, since its creation in 1950, the Family Service Agency of San Mateo County has been a beacon of hope for many in San Mateo County and has grown to now serve 20,000 clients of all ages; and

   

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County does hereby recognize and congratulate the Family Service Agency of San Mateo County on its 60th anniversary and share our gratitude for its contributions of service to our community.
