THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS, COUNTY OF SAN MATEO, STATE OF CALIFORNIA HONORS AND COMMENDS | ||||
AMY MORO MORGAN: 2010 COLUMBUS DAY HONOREE | ||||

Whereas, San Mateo County’s Italian-American community has a long history of celebrating its Italian Heritage on Columbus Day and selecting an honoree who has contributed greatly to the Italian American community; and | ||||
Whereas, Mrs. Amy Moro Morgan is the 2010 Columbus Day Honoree for her lifelong contributions and dedicated service to the Italian American community; and | ||||
Whereas, Mrs. Morgan was born April 14, 1930 in Torino, Italy and came to the United States at a young age, not knowing the English language; and | ||||
Whereas, Mrs. Morgan educated herself by going to night school and developed impeccable English and Italian, both written and spoken; and | ||||
Whereas, Mrs. Morgan and her husband Mr. Jim Morgan had one child, Steve; and she now is the proud grandmother of three; and | ||||
Whereas, Mrs. Morgan dedicated her life to many causes including the Sons of Italy, Italian Cultural Center and the Columbus Day festivities in San Mateo County; and | ||||
Whereas, she has served in the Galileo Galilei Lodge for nearly fifty years, holding many offices including Lodge President; and | ||||
Whereas, Mrs. Morgan was active in the Redwood City community and was known for writing to her congressional representative, local city officials and her local paper about issues that concerned her; and | ||||
Whereas, as someone passionate about the electoral process, Mrs. Morgan’s garage was a local voting place for many years; and | ||||
Whereas, year after year, Mrs. Morgan is a devoted volunteer for the Columbus Day celebration. Her spark, energy, humor and frankness contribute to the vitality and success of the celebration. | ||||
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, hereby commends Mrs. Amy Moro Morgan for her service in San Mateo County and her commitment to the Italian American community | ||||
