RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING | ||||
The 20th Anniversary of Daybreak | ||||

WHEREAS, the Daybreak Transitional Living Program opened in 1990 as a transitional living program for youth aged 16-21 to help them gain independent living skills; and | ||||
WHEREAS, Youth and Family Assistance along with the Junior League of Palo Alto-Mid Peninsula, Inc initiated the idea for the Daybreak Shelter in 1989 and with the help of community volunteers and both the County of San Mateo and the City of Redwood City they were able purchase the home for Daybreak; and | ||||
WHEREAS, since opening in 1990, Daybreak has been a home for over 500 youth and has provided independent living skills and support to help young people succeed in starting a healthy new life; and | ||||
WHEREAS, thanks to the services they received at Daybreak, 85% of the youth who have lived there have continued their education or employment and have completed their GEDs or Job Training programs; and | ||||
WHEREAS, Daybreak has contributed to the long term success of the youth who have stayed within its walls as 80% have moved out into a safe, positive independent living arrangement such as Job Corps, community home share, or an apartment; and | ||||
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Supervisors of San Mateo County does hereby recognize and congratulate the Daybreak Transitional Living Program on its 20th anniversary and expresses its gratitude for Daybreak’s contributions to our community. | ||||
